Electric Utility Meterman Training

An electric utility meterman performs skilled electrical and mechanical work in the installation, testing, and maintenance of single phase and three phase meters and related equipment.

The types of specific duties include:

• Troubleshooting complex meter schemes
• Field checks of complex industrial meters and equipment
• Determining types of meters and related equipment

This includes making decisions about the current transformers and\or potential transformers.

High functioning meters are necessary to accurately record electric energy consumption. Meterman keep the meters operating properly by maintain meters and by making minor instrument repairs and calibrations.

As part of their job, metermen are responsible for issuing meters to field crews, operating computers for shop work, field testing, and interrogation of metering installations.

The work of an electric utility meterman is both out in the field and in the shop. It all depends on the assignment of the day. And they either work independently or paired up with another Meterman.

Metermen work both in the field and in the shop as required, independently or with another Meterman.

Because work is often performed on energized equipment in both low and high voltage scenarios, attention to safety is imperative.
