Eugene-Springfield JATC
How To Get Started

Getting started with in the JATC program takes research on the part of the candidate. Before applying to the program, there are important considerations to address.

This career is not for everyone, so if being around high voltage frightens you, this should be the place for you to reconsider.

However, if the idea of earning an income while you build your skills and education in a field facing a nation-wide shortage, this might be for you.

The first step to getting started is to review the different apprenticeship programs offered by the 5 utility sponsors. Ask yourself “Is this right for me?” as you review the pages.

Ride-Along Program

Most of the 5 involved utilities with the Eugene-Springfield JATC offer ride a longs or “job shadowing” opportunities.

This consists of a person choosing an available trade that they are interested in, and going out with the crew for a day in that particular trade, to observe the typical duties performed. However, not all trades or utilities offer a ride-along.

Please contact the individual utilities for availabilities and requirements.
